2014 AL East

Toronto Blue Jays(74-88, 5th place) Off-season acquisitions- Dioner Navarro, Erik Kratz, & Brett Carroll. With an off-season that was completely different from last year’s. The Blue Jays look to hope for the success they were supposed to have last year happen this year. With the likes of Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle, Josh Johnson, Jose Bautista & others. While they have big name players most of them seem to be out of their prime and will result in another last place finish in the AL East.

New York Yankees(85-77; Tied for 3rd place) Off-season acquisitions- Carlos Beltran, Jacoby Ellsbury, Brian McCann, Masahiro Tanaka, & Brian Roberts. The Yankees did what the Yankees always do & that’s buy whoever they want in the off-season. After a disappointing season last year the Yankees look to bounce back & make the playoffs. With Derek Jeter announcing this is his final season it gives everyone on the team even more motivation to make the playoffs and ultimately win the World Series. While they added big bats to the lineup & the best pitcher this off-season their entire rotation & bullpen could be their achilles heal. With that I have them finishing 4th in the AL East.

Tampa Bay Rays(92-71; 2nd place) Off-season acquisitions- Jose Molina, Heath Bell, Ryan Hanigan, Grant Balfour, & Nathan Karns. A team that always seems to over exceed expectations; The Tampa Bay Rays look to do the same thing again this season. With smart additions to their team the Rays look to once again make the playoffs under Joe Maddon. With most of the off-season talk surrounding ace pitcher David Price the Rays will have a choice on their hands during the season on whether or not they keep or trade him. While they keep Price for this entire season I think we see them finish 3rd in the AL East.

Baltimore Orioles(85-77; Tied for 3rd) Off-season acquisitions- Nelson Cruz, Ubaldo Jimenez, Delmon Young, Jemile Weeks, & David Lough. A young team who has grown under manager Buck Showalter they have gone back to the being the old Baltimore Orioles that had hall of famer Cal Ripken Jr playing for them. With all-stars like Adam Jones, Chris Davis, Matt Wieters & Manny Machado(coming off of injury) the Orioles are lining themselves up for a run at winning the AL East this year. With key veteran signings of Nelson Cruz, Delmon Young, Ubalado Jimenez & a flyer minor league signing of Johan Santana the Orioles look to make it back to the playoffs. While I don’t have my final AL playoff pitch set I do have the Orioles coming in 2nd in the AL East.

Boston Red Sox(97-65; 1st place) Off-season acquisitions- AJ Pierzynski, Grady Sizemore, Chris Capuano, & Edward Mujica. The 2013 World Series Champions look to be the first team since New York Yankees to repeat as champs. After losing more talent than they signed this off-season the Red Sox look to have their young stars like Xander Bogaerts, Will Middlebrooks, & Jackie Bradley Jr step up into some key roles this season. While it’s never easy to repeat as champs as it’s been over 10 years since a team has achieved that goal. I believe the Red Sox will have an opportunity to do so by winning the AL East for the second straight season.
