Tonight’s Raw took place in Baltimore, Maryland where it kicks off with the newest married couple in the WWE; Daniel Bryan & Brie Bella. After Daniel & Brie do the “yes” chant with the fans out comes Stephanie McMahon. Stephanie makes the announcement that Daniel Bryan will be defending his WWE World Heavyweight Championship in two weeks at Extreme Rules against the big red machine Kane. After announcing the match Stephanie informs Bryan that he should keep his new wife out of harms way, and at that moment Kane’s music hits. The music continues to play as there is no sight of Kane, and Bryan & Bella back out of the ring towards the announcers table. Kane appears from the crowd and starts attacking Bryan. Bryan tries to fight back but Kane is on a mission and will not be slowed down. While the attack happens Stephanie continues to yell at Kane to stop what he is doing, but nothing stops him. Kane hits three tombstone piledrivers to Bryan with the first one being on the floor, the second one on the steel steps, and the final one on the announcers table. Although a “PG” show after the attack on Bryan; Stephanie calls Kane a “bastard” while the EMTs put Bryan on a stretcher and head to commercial. Following the commercial break they come back to Bryan on the stretcher as he is finally being escorted to the back.
The first match of the night is between Bad New Barrett and Sheamus with the winner of the match advancing to the finals of the Intercontinental Championship number one contenders tournament. Barrett comes out, and does his “I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news”gimmick with the fans saying it with him as he goes to the ring. Sheamus then comes out to a huge pop. With Barrett looking to finally get the push he has been deserved since winning NXT the fans seem to be behind him in a big way, and will continue to stay behind him more and more each week. While for Sheamus the crowd was giving him a mix reaction throughout the match. Barrett and Sheamus both put on a great match and could have both easily have won it to advance to the finals. Sheamus hits white noise, but Barrett kicks out at 2 and the back and forth action continues. With the fans chanting “This is awesome” Barrett on the outside of the ring hits his finishing move and pins Sheamus to advance to the finals of the intercontinental championship number one contender tournament.
Following the break the WWE Universe sees a vignette of NXT star Bo Dallas. They show the WWE App poll of the night where the Universe gets to decide who John Cena faces tonight on Raw; Luke Harper is one option, Erick Rowan and Luke Harper is another option and the final option is the entire Wyatt family. We quickly go to a Bray Wyatt promo as they stand at the top of the stage. Bray mentions how tonight everything can change tonight and it’s in the universe’s hands by how they vote tonight. Bray gave the WWE Universe yet another great promo like he always does. Bray begins to sing and gets the fans to sing along to “He’s got the whole world in his hands”.
Next was probably one of the worst things the WWE has put on Raw in the past few months. It was a six-man tag match involving Los Matadores & El Torito against 3MB(Mahal & McIntyre) & Hornswoggle. The match starts off with El Torito and Hornswoggle as they are just slopping all around the ring. Eventually this match ends with Torito pinning McIntyre. One of the most dreadful matches on Raw was too long and was finally over. Before break we go to the back where we see a limo pull up and just like Evolution of old Batista, Triple H and Randy Orton get out of the limo as they have arrived at Raw.
After the break out comes the reformation of Evolution to a nice pop, but that quickly changed as soon as Triple H starts to speak and he gets booed. HHH talks about the beating they handed The Shield last week, and that how that was just the beginning of it all. Orton grabs the mic and mentions how the shield’s act a few weeks ago led to all of this and eventually the reformation of Evolution. And then of course Batista talks nexts and informs the shield that they don’t know what they got themselves into. Which leads to The Shield’s music to hit as Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose make their way to the ring through the crowd. Evolution backs out of the ring as no confrontation happens between the groups as the shield are in the ring and evolution are on top of the stage. Just like evolution the shield have all three members talk, but the shield have a lot more anger in their voices especially with what happened last week on Raw. Reigns informs evolution that they have two options; one be men and fight or two hide like creampuffs(A word Ambrose called Orton earlier). Reigns, Rollins and Ambrose make their way up the ramp but then stop when the eleven men in the main event last week against the shield come out next to evolution to stop the shield. HHH says or theirs option three and you ever adapt or perish. The stare down continues as Michael Cole gives us an update on Daniel Bryan.
The next match puts The Usos in tag team action against Cody Rhodes and Goldust while Rybaxel is at the commentary table during the match. In a match that wasn’t that long eventually saw the tag team champions win in a clean victory. Following the match Goldust tries to help up his brother Cody, but Cody pushes Goldust away. Which could be the start of a heel turn for Cody and a feud between the two brothers. But that’s not all Rybaxel attack the Usos from behind as they look to be the next contenders for the tag team titles. Following the break we get diva action between Layla and Emma. Layla takes control of the match early as Fandango knocks Santino Marella off the apron. On the outside of the ring while Layla has control in the match; Marella hits Fandango with the Cobra. The action in the ring changes as Emma takes control and takes a pink cobra out of her sock and hits Layla with it and get the victory. Emma and Marella both celebrate in the ring after the win and that includes the cobra on both of their hands.
The last intercontinental championship number one contender match to determine who will face Wade Barrett in the finals is next as Cesaro faces RVD. Cesaro with his annoying alarm makes his way to the ring with Paul Heyman by his side. Heyman repeatedly mentions how his client Brock Lesnar conquered the streak. RVD finally interrupts Heyman and the match is on. In another great match put on by both of the superstars the fans seemed to be behind RVD just a little bit more than Cesaro. With a pacing Heyman on the outside of the ring Cesaro seems to have finally taken control of the match and is setting up RVD for “the swing”. But out comes Cesaro’s former partner and manager Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter for the distraction. Swagger, Cesaro are face to face outside the ring as RVD tries to continue the match by flying off the top rope, but Cesaro hits him with the European uppercut. Cesaro throws RVD back into the ring and while the referee is checking on RVD; Swagger pushes Cesaro into the steel post. The ref starts his 10 count; Which to me seemed a lot faster than normal, but in the end counted Cesaro out and RVD advances to the finals. After the match Swagger and Cesaro start fighting in the ring, and Colter even is in the ring. Cesaro throws Swagger out of the ring and turns his attention to Colter. Cesaro sets Colter up for “the swing”, but is saved by Swagger. But Cesaro fights back and gives the fans what they want, and that’s getting Swagger in the position of “the swing” and does it. The rivalry between Cesaro and Swagger, and even Heyman and Colter seem to be heating up.
The next match is a rematch from Friday’s night Smackdown between two divas. Aksana faces WWE Divas champion Paige. Paige has given a nice spark to the diva division and has allowed for other divas to show that they can also compete in a WWE ring. Paige’s new style could go over soon with the fans, and I believe it will. Paige’s finishing submission move the Scorpion Crosslock gets applied to Aksana and she submits. Following the break Lana comes out in a very seductive way as she goes through her introduction of Alexnader Rusev as he goes one on one against Sin Cara. In yet another squash match for Rusev; Cara put on more of a fight than anyone other competitor has in the past few weeks. While these matches show Rusev’s dominance it could ultimately hurt his future in the WWE unless they fix it soon. The combination of Lana and Rusev could become successful once the squash matches stop.
The main event is finally here as John Cena makes his way to the ring and will finally know how many members of the Wyatt Family he will face based on how the WWE Universe voted tonight. Jerry Lawler announces that the WWE Universe voted for all three members of the Wyatt Family to take on Cena. Before the ref could even ring the bell all three members attack Cena in the ring to get the upper hand. Luke Harper, Erick Rowan, and Bray Wyatt for most part of the match have their way with Cena besides for the very rare moments when Cena has some momentum. But not for long would Cena have that momentum because either Harper or Rowan would slow him down. Bray does his creepy exorcism walk, but it gives Cena enough time to get some momentum as he clothesline Bray. Cena then knocks both Harper and Rowan off the apron as Cena goes vintage as he attacks Bray. Cena hits the five knuckle shuffle and gets Bray setup for the AA, but Harper and Rowan both enter the ring and the ref calls for the bell. Following the end of the match the Wyatt family destroy Cena as Bray uses Sister Abigail to knock him out. Bray sits next to Cena and cradles his said says “in due time, all things come to light”. Bray begins to sing “In his hands” with a good amount of fans singing along with him, and that is the final sight the WWE Universe sees on Raw.
Tonight’s Raw had it’s dull moments, but also had their red hot moments. The post WrestleMania push continues for the likes of Bad News Barrett, Cesaro, Paige, The Wyatt Family, and the Shield. While WWE World Heavyweight Champion has had a roller coaster of a past few weeks; Next week should be what Raw’s will be like when Daniel Bryan is able to participate on a regular basis. The matches for Extreme Rules seem to taking shape and could be a very good “Special Event” next month.
